‘Hotel Transylvania 2’ Will Switch On Vacancy Sign Again in 2015

When a new film, especially an animated film, is released, you can almost always guess that there’s going to be at least one sequel.  With the surprising success of Sony Pictures Animation‘s hit, Hotel Transylvaniait’s no surprise that there’s is now a sequel in the works, according to THR.  Since this news is so fresh, however, the only information about the new film is the release date.  If you were scared that you weren’t going to be able to get into the Halloween spirit in 2015, you can rest easier now.

Confirmed today, Hotel Transylvia 2, as it is tentatively titled, is slated for release on September 25, 2015.  The project is still in the infancy stage of production, but we do know that Gendy Tartakovsky (Dexter’s LaboratoryThe Powerpuff Girls) would not be returning as the director.  Tartakovsky will instead be developing an adaptation ofPopeye for Sony, set for release on September 26, 2014.  Sadly a year is just too short.

The cast has yet to be announced, but principal members such as Adam Sandler andSelena Gomez must be returning.  Contracts are far too tightly worded to not include some sort of sequel clause.  With that said, the Shrek series is still looming like a fairy tale warning of Sequel Syndrome, to coin a phrase.

It is a shame that Gendy Tartakovsky will not be returning, in many ways he’s under appreciated, though it is refreshing to see him working on more projects.  Perhaps his not returning could lead to that elusive Samurai Jack movie, in my dreams that is.
